Vulnerable Giants

We were lucky enough to visit the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust (DSWT) orphanage in Nairobi. Here we saw the devastating results of man’s influence on the natural world. Tiny, orphan elephants, separated from their mothers in the most horrendous of circumstances demonstrated that they were capable of love once more. We were moved to tears by our visit to Nairobi’s David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust and wanted to do something to help support the orphan elephants of Kenya. That’s why we decided to chronicle the lives of wild and orphan elephants in Kenya, and are dedicating all profits from the sale of this book to DSWT.

Arctic Highlights

Icebergs tower all around you, sheer mountain faces ascend from the sea to the heavens, rock seams splinter and bend while whales abound in the Arctic seas, small trees grow slowly on the tundra visited only by solitary Arctic fox and hare. This is Svalbard, land of the bear, preserver of the seeds. This is Greenland, largest island in the world, a vast ice cap of outrageous scenery and history. This is the Arctic, where ice sculptures form and fade, where fantastical and gentle memories are formed and remain.

A journey, or safari, solely within the Maasai Mara, Kenya, in September 2009: four nights at Kicheche Bush Camp, in Olare Orok, and four nights at Mara Safari Camp, in Mara North Conservancy. Though the Mara was still relatively green, at this time many other parts of Kenya continued to be severely affected by drought, and the tourism industry is still recovering from the effects of post-election violence in 2008.

China
This book illustrates a journey around China in winter 2008. A country undergoing great change, with much to learn and much for others to learn from, China’s diversity took us from the ancient Forbidden City and Great Wall through the Soviet-esque northern architecture in freezing Heilongjiang province, the startling Terracotta Warriors and cuddly giant pandas, to the ultra-modern bustle and warmth of HK.
